Bitcoin rose 2.1% to $83,579 on Binance by 10:07 UTC on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, after buyers defended $81,000 again. Citigroup and TD Cowen have raised their forecasts this month, putting their latest targets 30% to 35% above the current price.

Citigroup set a 12-month target of $113,000, up from $82,000, while TD Cowen moved its year-end 2026 projection to about $109,000 from $97,500. Citigroup links its upgrade to renewed investment in spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), a softer dollar and the US Treasury buying back longer-dated bonds. It expects about $5 billion to flow into crypto investment products over the next year.

The bank began 2026 with a $143,000 target, then lowered it to $112,000 in March and $82,000 in July, according to Decrypt. Its current forecast remains below the October 2025 record near $126,200.

TD Cowen analyst Lance Vitanza lifted the firm's year-end view on October 8, after bitcoin closed the third quarter above its $76,235 assumption, investingLive reported. The firm had cut its 2026 estimate to $97,500 on September 2, when bitcoin was near $78,000. It projects about $132,750 at the end of 2027 and $280,000 in 2029.

The chart setup centres on $81,355, a level formed by May highs and revisited after bitcoin broke above a range that extended down to the July low near $58,000. The report's technical analysis identifies $87,100 as the first barrier, following reversals there in late September and early October. Above that, the January 14 high of $97,285 and then $100,000 come into view. The latter is about 20% above the current price, or 23% from $81,355. The 50-day EMA at $80,259 has crossed above the 200-day EMA at $75,610, which the analysis treats as a bullish signal. These chart levels and price scenarios were set out in the analysis first reported by Finance Magnates.

ETF flows are a counterweight to the bank forecasts. US spot bitcoin ETFs recorded $678.9 million in outflows last week, the largest weekly withdrawal since June, according to Bitfinex Alpha. At about $84,340, the estimated average purchase price for ETF holdings sits just above bitcoin's current price, Bitfinex analysts said. They expect some holders near breakeven to sell into a recovery. Ahead of Wednesday's US September consumer price release, Bitfinex expects BTC to stay between $81,300 and $84,500; it says a hotter reading could increase the odds of another Federal Reserve hike in October. Crypto liquidations topped $400 million in an hour last week as yields rose. Bitfinex says persistent inflation and further ETF withdrawals could put $77,400 in reach. The chart scenario points to $80,300, near the 50-day EMA, after a daily close below $81,355; a break of the 200-day EMA near $75,600 would negate the bullish case.

The integration question

The report describes price and flow risks, not a change to a trading platform or a new integration. For trading and risk teams, the immediate check is whether BTC price inputs, exposure calculations and alerts use consistent data, particularly around $81,355, $84,340 and $87,100. Are those levels reflected in the relevant monitoring and escalation rules?

ETF withdrawals and the inflation release could shift the market quickly, but the report does not specify how any broker or proprietary trading firm is positioned. Operators should check how a move through the cited levels would affect their existing exposure, margin and liquidation processes, and whether teams can distinguish a temporary intraday breach from a daily close below support.
