IG Group Holdings cancelled 24,522,153 ordinary shares from its treasury on 5 November 2026, according to an announcement made under UK Listing Rule. Its issued share capital now stands at 337,035,715 shares, all carrying voting rights. The company has no shares left in treasury.
The cancelled shares each had a nominal value of 0.005 pence. IG said shareholders should use the new total when assessing whether they must report holdings or changes in their interests under the Financial Conduct Authority's Disclosure Guidance and Transparency Rules.
The shares came from a buyback programme announced in March 2026. IG set a maximum budget of £125 million, divided into two tranches of up to £62.5 million, and began purchases on 1 April. Morgan Stanley was appointed to execute them, with bought-back shares initially kept in treasury. IG ended the programme after proposing to acquire US prediction markets operator Underdog in July. By 3 August, it had bought 1,994,774 shares for approximately £32.9 million.
This cancellation removes shares already held by the company. It does not record a fresh purchase or sale. The figures therefore affect the share count used for voting and disclosure calculations, rather than describing a new market transaction.
IG's senior executives also bought shares in October. CEO Breon Corcoran acquired 70,000 across two transactions, spending approximately £661,913: 30,000 at £9.45 each and another 40,000 at an average £9.46. CFO Clifford Abrahams bought 10,000 at £9.44 each, paying approximately £94,399. Both traded on the London Stock Exchange. Together, their purchases amounted to 80,000 shares worth approximately £756,312. The trades followed a 27% drop in IG's share price after it cut its 2026 revenue growth outlook. The filings gave no reason for the purchases, which were reported by Finance Magnates.

The integration question
For operations teams, the immediate check is whether shareholder reporting workflows use 337,035,715 as the denominator for voting rights notifications. IG has identified that figure for disclosures under the FCA rules. Any internal reference data or compliance process that holds the previous share count may need review.
Teams should also establish how their records distinguish issued shares from shares held in treasury, and confirm that the cancellation is reflected consistently in relevant reporting. The announcement does not describe a new trade, so the practical question is whether existing controls update the capital and voting-rights data without treating the event as a purchase or sale.
