StoneX Securities has opened weekend trading in US SP 500 and US Tech 100 CFDs for FOREX.com clients in Japan. The service starts at 5 p.m. Tokyo time on Saturday, pauses for an hour each morning and then runs into the weekday session, the company said on Wednesday, 21 October 2026.
Saturday hours differ from local schedules
Many Japanese providers stop index CFD trading on Saturday morning. Schedules compiled by comparison site FXNAV show Hirose Tsusho and Gaitame.com closing their index contracts at 6:30 a.m. On Saturday, with trading unavailable again until Monday.
The launch follows an overseas rollout
FOREX.com announced 7-Day versions of both indices for clients of GAIN Global Markets three days before the Japan launch. GAIN Global Markets is regulated by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), and its Saturday session starts at 08:00 UTC, coinciding with the Tokyo session opening.
StoneX Securities called its Japanese offering the first of its kind, based on a review of domestic FX and CFD providers and major online securities firms as of 8 October. The claim is limited to the US SP 500 and US Tech 100. IG Securities, the Japanese arm of IG Group, also lists a weekend CFD on the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which local retail traders watch as the "Sunday Dow" for a signal of where Wall Street may open on Monday.
Weekend products are spreading
Weekend gold has been another focus for brokers: Vantage launched a seven-day gold CFD in July, while FOREX.com said its 7-Day range began with gold earlier in the year. FM Intelligence counted at least 19 firms announcing dedicated weekend or 24/7 gold products from February 17 to October 1, including 14 in the third quarter. In the US, Bruce Markets plans to add weekend hours to overnight equity trading on its alternative trading system, subject to regulatory review. CME Group shifted its crypto futures and options to round-the-clock trading on May 29; the first weekend recorded about $50 million in notional value. The broader weekend expansion was reported by Finance Magnates.
The new index hours follow StoneX Securities' August introduction of overnight sessions in selected Japanese stock CFDs and knock-out options, which run until 5 a.m. Tokyo time. Overnight trading in US shares has spread among brokers, although usage remains niche.
StoneX reported retail FX and CFD revenue of $64.7 million for the June quarter, down 19% year over year. Johan Gade, head of retail for Japan at StoneX, said events outside regular market hours increasingly shape trading and that "investors expect the ability to respond in real time".
What this means on the desk
For dealing and risk teams, the new window raises practical questions about weekend quote sources, spread settings and controls when weekday futures markets are closed. On its international site, FOREX.com says 7-Day index prices draw on alternative index reference markets during futures closures and that spreads can be wider than during weekdays. Operators will need to establish how those pricing conditions feed into their own monitoring and client-facing displays.
Teams should also check how the Saturday start and daily pause interact with order handling, margin checks, support cover and any reconciliation processes built around weekday sessions. The announcement does not specify those operational arrangements, or how the Japanese service's reference pricing is implemented. Those details are worth confirming before the extended hours are reflected in internal runbooks.
