OANDA Securities will end its Japanese MT4 service on 14 November 2026, two weeks earlier than planned, after citing security incidents involving third-party virtual private server (VPS) hosting. The revised date advances a withdrawal first announced in March and gives customers less time to prepare for account migration and changes to their trading setups.

Why the broker moved the date

The schedule change follows unauthorised access to Onamae.com Desktop Cloud, a VPS service run by GMO Internet Group that retail traders use to host MT4 and MT5. The incident could have affected as many as 26,739 servers. Brokerages including OANDA issued urgent security notices, restricted transactions on affected accounts and told customers to change passwords and turn on two-factor authentication.

How accounts will move

For customers on the Tokyo server, open positions and balances are due to transfer automatically into MT5 Standard Plan accounts over 14-15 November. OANDA asks customers to open an MT5 account ahead of the move, but says it will create one if needed. Customers with only a balance are asked to move their funds before the shutdown; OANDA says it can transfer balances left behind.

Once MT4 access ends, NY-server customers can continue trading through fxTrade or TradingView. The migration will not carry over trading tools: MT4 templates, EAs and indicators cannot be used on MT5. Customers will therefore need to check how their existing setups can be recreated or replaced.

What OANDA says about support

In its notice, OANDA said MT4's age and MetaQuotes ending official support and system maintenance had made it harder to meet current security requirements. OANDA Japan made Google Authenticator OTP-based MFA mandatory for MT5 logins from 31 October, after announcing the change on 29 October in connection with the hosting incident. The revised schedule was first reported by Finance Magnates. OANDA says customers must secure external VPS environments themselves because its protections do not extend to third-party servers.

What to watch next

Operations teams should check which Tokyo-server customers have an MT5 account ready, how balances remaining at the cutoff will be moved and whether clients can access the destination account. They should also confirm the post-shutdown route for NY-server customers using fxTrade or TradingView.

Firms supporting automated strategies should identify which MT4 EAs, indicators and templates need a replacement or a new configuration for MT5. For customers using external VPS hosting, confirm who is responsible for securing each environment. OANDA's notice does not detail what transition support it will provide for those setups.
